News Release
June 2007, Morgan City, LA - Swiftships was awarded a fixed price contract for $467,923 to complete the technical design of a 28-meter patrol craft for the government of Egypt. The contract was awarded by the U.S. Government utilizing foreign military sales funds and will be followed with a construction contract to be awarded in March 2008. The program will be a co-production effort with two vessels completed at the Swiftships facility and a minimum of four vessels that will be kitted and shipped to Egypt for construction at a shipyard in Egypt. Swiftships will assist the government of Egypt in the development of a shipyard for the construction of the 28-meter patrol boats and future vessels. The vessels will be constructed using steel alloy for the hulls and aluminum alloy for the superstructure. The vessels will be built to ABS High Speed Navy Craft rules. Swiftships was the first shipbuilder to build a patrol craft to the ABS HSNC rules. Swiftships successfully built nine patrol vessels in 1984 that were the basis for the new contract. The Egyptian Navy is still using the existing vessels.
July 2007, Morgan City, LA – Swiftships was awarded a $2,000,000 contract by the US Navy for improvement of the shipyard that will increase the company’s ability to reduce the impact of hurricanes. The US Government initiated the program after hurricane Katrina to ensure that gulf coast shipyards could protect the assets of the government that were under construction. The scope of work includes additional bulk heading, dredging, raising the level of the facility, and grounds improvement. The improvements will take approximately six months to complete.
January 2008, Morgan City, LA – Swiftships was awarded a $5,271,000 contract by the government of the Dominican Republic for the construction of four patrol boats. The vessels will be forty-six feet in length and will be constructed of aluminum alloy. The program will follow a contract in which Swiftships refurbished six existing vessels and supplied two new thirty-five meter patrol boats to the Dominican Republic. The six refurbished craft were as follows: (4) four – eighty five foot Sewart Seacraft patrol vessels and (2) two – one hundred and ten foot Swiftships vessels. The vessels were built between 1967 and 1984. The vessels hulls were inspected and repairs were made where required. The vessels were completely restored with new machinery, electronics, and interiors. The additional forty-six foot vessels will be delivered by midyear 2008.
